ITINERARY: Bishkek – Ala-Archa – Burana – Son Kul – Tash Rabat – Kochkor –  Bokonbaev – Jeti Oguz – Karakol – Cholpon Ata – Bishkek

Day 1. Arrival to Kyrgyzstan. Airport – Bishkek – Ala-Archa National Park – Bishkek (120 km)

Arrival at the International ‘Manas’ Airport. “Jannat Travel” representative meets you at arrivals. Transfer to the city. Early check in is included. The drive takes approximately 40 min. Arrival in the city of Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan with a population of about over one million people, at an elevation of 700-900 m above sea level.

Check in at the hotel. Breakfast at the hotel. Little rest after breakfast and start tour in Bishkek and surroundings. Firstly, we drive to the natural park Ala-Archa for a light walk, relaxing and meeting the nature of Kyrgyzstan. After walking, transfer back to Bishkek and have a light half day city tour. Visit Central Square Ala-Too, Monument of the National Hero Manas, Statue of Lenin, Kurmanzhan Datka Monument, Oak Park, Old Square with Parliament House, Opera House, Victory Square dedicated to the WWII.

Day 2. Bishkek – Burana – Son Kul (330 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast drive to Burana tower. Burana is a middle age minaret, built in Balasagun town – the capital of Karakhanid State (IX-XI AD). Explore ruins of that important trading point at the Great Silk Road and visit a little local museum and a collection of Balbals, Turkic ancient stone sculptures.

Lunch in Kochkor town en route. After arrival to Son Kul, you will be free to enjoy the fantastic beauty of the landscape. Dinner and overnight in a yurt. Yurt is a portable dwelling consist of wooden carcass and felt coverage.

Day 3. Son Kul. Full day

Free day in Son Kul.

Son Kul – the second biggest lake in the country at the altitude of 3016m above sea level. It is a place where nomads live in a traditional simplicity, bringing their cattle for summer pastureland. It is a great opportunity to spend time with friendly nomad families, to taste their fresh airan (yoghurt) and kymys (a fermented national drink made of mare’s milk) to enjoy a breathtaking view and a beautiful sunset. During summer time, Kyrgyz shepherds come up to graze their livestock and enjoy the pasture life. Local shepherds make national drink Kymyz.

Optionally: You can ride horses(extra cost) or hike to explore the area and enjoy the peaceful and picturesque landscapes.

You can also enjoy watching horseback riding traditional games(extra cost).

Day 4. Son Kul – Tash Rabat (190 km)

Today after breakfast you will drive to Tash Rabat Caravansarai, which was the stopping point on the Silk Road which you will visit during your tour today. This extraordinary construction dating back to 14th century was used by ancient travelers to stop for overnights on the territory of Kyrgyzstan. Tash Rabat is situated in the arms of Tien Shan Mountains at the altitude of 3200m. It was completely constructed from blocks of rocks and some part of the building goes into the mountain hill. The walls are very thick reaching 1 m in width.  There are 31 room are found and some of them have underground cells. It is believed that they used as a prison. Lunch and dinner in the yurt camp. Night in a yurt close to caravanserai in Tash Rabat.

Day 5. Tash Rabat – Kochkor (150 km)

After enjoying breakfast, travel to Kochkor village, famous in Kyrgyzstan as a transit village. Kochkor is the motherland of carpets. There amazing masterpiece of traditional art can serve for many decades. we will visit small but interesting museum of ancient things like silver decorations, coats made of wolf’s skin, horse saddle decorations and others. Night in a homestay.

Optionally: Carpet Show (demonstration of the process of making the Kyrgyz traditional shyrdak-carpet) or Yurt Installation Show (extra cost)

Day 6. Kochkor – Yssy Kul southern shore – Karakol (270 km)

Today you will travel to Yssyk-Kul Lake, the second largest alpine lake in the world after Lake Titicaca in South America. Measuring 182 km long by 60 km wide, the lake appeared as a result of volcanic activity. The lake is surrounded by snow-caped mountains. On the way during your tour, you will have a break at Bokonbaev village in order to meet an eagle hunter. Eagle hunting is one of the traditional ways of nomadic hunting.

Lunch in Bokonbaevo town.

After the eagle hunting demonstration, continue driving to Karakol town. Another stop en route will be the Jeti Oguz gorge which is known as Seven Bulls, where we enjoy a short light hiking. Arrive to Karakol town and check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight in Karakol.

Day 7. Karakol – Grigorievka gorge – Cholpon Ata (160 km)

After breakfast we drive along the northern shore of Issyk Kul to Cholpon Ata via Grigorievskoe gorge, where we can enjoy hiking. Grigorievka gorge is a long and picturesque gorge on the northern shore of the Lake Issyk-Kul.

On the way visit the museum of N. M. Przhevalski, the outstanding Russian explorer of Asian continent. We continue our journey around the lake.

Hike in Grigorievskoe gorge. Picnic lunch. Arrival to Cholpon Ata town. Cholpon-Ata town is located on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul and is famous for its petroglyphs, resorts and sandy beaches. Dinner and overnight in a hotel on the lake shore.

Optionally: You can go on an hour boat cruise in the lake to admire clear water of Issyk Kul with snowcapped Tien Shan Mountains in the background. (extra cost)

Day 8. Cholpon Ata – Bishkek (260 km)

Breakfast, lunch, dinner included

After breakfast visit the so called “Stone garden” or Petroglyphs site, the temple in the open air of Scythians and Hungsuns civilizations in 9-8 centuries BC till 3-4 centuries AD. After a short excursion, continue driving to Bishkek. Lunch in the Boom gorge en route. Upon arrival to Bishkek accommodation in the hotel. Farewell dinner in a restaurant.

Day 9. Bishkek – Airport (30 km)

Breakfast included

Early breakfast in the morning. After breakfast transfer to the airport, flight back home. End of the tour.

Additional Info

Please have in mind that the summer in Bishkek is usually hot. The temperature can reach up to + 38-39 C. and up in the mountains it can decrease to below 0 C. The weather in the mountainous areas can be unpredictable.

Recommended:

You can take anything you like but here is our recommendation to take with: Rain-coat, fleece, Wind-stopper, Hat, Sun-block cream, Bathing suit, Sunglasses. Trekking boots for easy hikes in the mountains. Personal first aid and hygiene kit.

if you want or plan to exchange US/Euro to Kyrgyz Som (local currency), we recommend to take the notes of 20, 50, 100 USD/Euro without any spots, inscriptions, stamps and other types of damage, because exchange offices and banks do not accept such damaged banknotes.
