Treasures of North and South Kyrgyzstan

ITINERARY: Bishkek – Ala-Archa – Toktogul – Sary Chelek – Arslanbob – Uzgen – Osh – Bishkek – Burana Tower – Yssyk Kul – Karakol – Jeti Oguz – Skazka – Tamga – Bishkek.

Day 1. Arrival to Kyrgyzstan. Airport – Bishkek – Ala-Archa National Park – Bishkek (120 km)

Arrival at the International ‘Manas’ Airport. “Jannat Travel” representative meets you at arrivals. Transfer to the city. Early check in is included. The drive takes approximately 40 min. Arrival to the city of Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan with a population of about over one million people, at an elevation of 700-900 m above sea level.

Check in at the hotel. Breakfast at the hotel. Little rest after breakfast and start tour in Bishkek and surroundings. Firstly, we drive to the natural park Ala-Archa for a light walk, relaxing and meeting the nature of Kyrgyzstan. After walking, transfer back to Bishkek and have a light half day city tour. Visit Central Square Ala-Too, Monument of the National Hero Manas, Statue of Lenin, Kurmanzhan Datka Monument, Oak Park, Old Square with Parliament House, Opera House, Victory Square dedicated to the WWII.

Dinner in a restaurant. Overnight in a hotel. 

Day 2. Bishkek – Toktogul (340 km)

After breakfast we travel to Toktogul – water reservoir. Toktogul Reservoir is actually the largest water reservoir in Central Asia. It’s 284 square kilometers, reaches 215 meters deep on average, and is an integral part of the hydroelectric power industry in Kyrgyzstan. The road travels through the southern part of Kyrgyzstan. During the journey be prepared for amazing views of impressive mountains and gorges. Today you will see the panoramic views of Too-Ashuu pass which is more than 3 000 meters high. This road is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Kyrgyzstan. You will have many opportunities for photo stops to remember this day. Lune n route in Chychkan valley. Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse at the reservoir.

Day 3. Toktogul – Sary Chelek (170 km)

After breakfast drive to Sary Chelek. Sary Chelek lake is situated in the center of a National reserve, at the foot of the Chatkal mountain range, at an altitude of 1,873 m above sea level. The lake is 234 m deep, 2,280 m wide and 7,500 m long. It appeared as a result of a strong earthquake. Its sweet water is so clear, that multicolored stones at the bottom of the lake and darting, timid fish are in full view.

Lunch, dinner and overnight in a guesthouse in Arkit village.

Arkyt village is the nearest village to Sary-Chelek. The area known for its many plum trees along the roads and its beautiful nature.

Day 4. Sary Chelek – Arslanbob (210 km)

After breakfast drive to Arslanbob. Arslanbob is a village, sub district, valley, mountain range, and a large wild walnut forest in the Jalal-Abad Region of Kyrgyzstan. Arslanbob’s grove produces 1500 tons of walnuts per year and is the largest single natural source of walnuts in the world. Kyrgyzstan’s first known export to Europe was the Arslanbob walnut. The walnut forest is within the 60,000 hectares’ forest situated between the Fergana and Chatkal Mountains. The walnut forest is located at altitudes varying between 1,500 – 2,000 m above sea level on the Fergana range’s south-facing slopes. Lunch, dinner and overnight in a homestay.

Day 5: Arslanbob. Full day

The whole day is devoted for a tour for exploring famous walnut forest Arslanbob, the total area is about 11, 000 hectares and located on the slopes of mountain, which makes it even more beautiful for travelers. It is believed that nuts from this area were brought to the other parts of the world during the Silk Road. Except walnut trees, there are many other berry trees in the forest, the largest in Kyrgyzstan. You will have wonderful hike by visiting waterfall. The scenery is magnificent. You can also meet friendly local people. Dinner and night in a homestay.

Day 6: Arslanbob –  Uzgen –  Osh (180 km)

After breakfast drive to Osh, the second biggest city of Kyrgyzstan. Osh is Kyrgyzstan’s southern capital, and one of the oldest cities in the country. With a history estimated to stretch back 3000 years, Osh has long been a central city in the Fergana Valley. Osh has also been historically significant in many different eras, from being home to a large.

En route visit the archeological and architectural complex of Uzgen. It is remains of the old city of Karahanids during 11th century which you will see during your travel. The complex consists of several mausoleums and one minaret, beautifully decorated in brick art. After excursion, arrive to Osh and night in a hotel. Dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 7: Osh – Bishkek flight. Airport – Bishkek city, (30 km)

The first half of the day, you will take a hiking tour to the holy Suleiman Too Mount. According to the legend, Suleiman Too is famous as a Solomon’s Mountains. Suleiman Too is one of the main shrines of the Islamic world in Central Asia. On the mount first you visit historical museum, located right in the main cave. After excursion in the museum you follow the way of all pilgrims up to the top of the hill where you watch a little mosque of Babur, the Great Mogols Dynasty founder, and take a bird eye’s view of the city.

After lunch visit Osh Bazaar, where can you walk along the colorful rows of golden market, watch black smiths working and smell aromas of spices, fruits and vegetables of food market. After the city tour transfer to the airport of Osh and fly to Bishkek.

Day 8: Bishkek – Yssyk Kul (285 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast Travel to Yssyk Kul. On the way visit Burana tower near Tokmok town. Burana is a middle age minaret, built in Balasagun town – the capital of Karakhanid State (IX-XI AD). Explore ruins of that important trading point at the Great Silk Road and visit a little local museum and a collection of Balbals, Turkic ancient stone sculptures.

After lunch continue driving to Issyk-Kul Lake, the second largest alpine lake in the world after Lake Titicaca in South America. Measuring 180 km long by 58 km wide, the lake appeared as a result of volcanic activity. Extremely deep and nicely warm over the centuries the lake has been something of an oasis in this inhospitable mountain environment. Upon arrival, accommodation at the hotel in the resort area with spa, pool, sport complex and shore of Issyk Kul lake itself. The rest of the day is free and dedicated to the beach time and enjoying the beautiful sunset.

Day 9: Yssyk Kul – Karakol (150 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast drive to the city of Karakol – the administrative center of Yssy-Kul, situated in the east of Yssyk-Kul Basin at the mouth of Karakol river, in the foothills of the Terskey Ala-Too (Tien Shan) mountains, at the altitude of 1770 m above sea level. On the way visit the museum of the famous Russian Explorer N. M. Przhevalski. Arrival to Karakol. Check in at the hotel.

Lunch in a local ethno-restaurant. After lunch, sightseeing tour in the city. Visit the Dungan mosque (XIX century) a unique building in Chinese style with no nails used and the wooden Russian Orthodox Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity built without any nails at the end of the XIX century. Dinner in a local Uigur family.

Day 10. Karakol – Jeti-oguz gorge – Tamga (120 km)

After breakfast, drive to Djety Oguz gorge to admire the landscapes. Upon arrival light hiking in the gorge. Djeti-Oguz (in Kyrgyz means Seven Bulls) is a scenic mountain valley, which is famous for its red rocks called “Seven Bulls” and “Broken Heart”. if you want it is possible to walk to the top of a mountain nearby to see a panoramic view of the gorge! There are yurts in the gorge and people can offer you Kymys (national fermented drink made of mare’s milk and is mildly alcoholic) to drink. After hiking drive along the south shore of the lake to Tamga town.

Lunch in the guest house. After lunch the rest of the day is free. If you want, you can walk around the town or go to the beach. Dinner and overnight in the guest house.

Day 11. Tamga – Skazka Canyon – Bishkek (320 km)

Breakfast, lunch, dinner included

After breakfast drive to Bishkek. On the way visit to Skazka (Fairy Tale) canyon with its colorful sandy formations. It provides one of the best views of the Yssyk-Kul Lake. Here in the canyon area we also meet an eagle hunter to see demonstration of hunting with birds of prey.

Lunch in a local family house in Bokonbaevo. After lunch, continue traveling to Bishkek.

Optionally: Folklore Show of Traditional Music – 100 USD per group (not included), you can get it at the lunch place upon request.

Farewell dinner in a restaurant. Overnight in a hotel.

Day 12. Bishkek – Airport (30 km)

Breakfast included

In the morning after breakfast transfer to the airport, flight back home. End of the tour.

Additional Info

Please have in mind that the summer in Bishkek is usually hot. The temperature can reach up to + 38-39 C. and up in the mountains it can decrease to below 0 C. The weather in the mountainous areas can be unpredictable.


You can take anything you like but here is our recommendation to take with: Rain-coat, fleece, Wind-stopper, Hat, Sun-block cream, Bathing suit, Sunglasses. Trekking boots for easy hikes in the mountains. Personal first aid and hygiene kit.
